$5000 Prize On New-look Herald Site

THE Herald has launched a new look for the Hunter's best news website, theherald.com.au, and is about to give budding filmmakers in the region the chance to win $5000 worth of cash and prizes.
The Herald's home page has become even more user-friendly, with new navigation bars at the top of each page, larger images, more prominent local stories and special features, and a revamped Lifestyle section. The new-look site will enhance The Herald's position as the leading source for news, sport and entertainment in the Hunter, while making it easier than ever for readers to comment on the news, send news tips and photographs or take part in Jeff Corbett's daily blog.Coinciding with the launch of the new-look website, there's a unique competition to encourage filmmakers to showcase their talents.The Herald 2 Minute Showdown is a great chance for filmmakers to get their eye in for Newcastle's celebrated Shootout Film Festival in July.The Showdown is a micro-movie challenge in the spirit of Shootout, where filmmakers will be asked to submit a two-minute film for the chance to win great prizes.A panel of judges will choose a winner and a runner-up in the competition but readers will also have their chance to vote on the finalists by logging on to theherald.com.au.The film judged as the best will earn its creator $2500 and an automatic entry into the Shootout competition. The runner-up will receive $1000 and a JVC Everio hard drive camcorder valued at $799.The winner of the readers' choice section of the competition will receive $500 and a JVC compact and easy digital video camera valued at $399.More details about the competition will be available in coming weeks.
